Located between Grenoble and Chambéry, the Balcons de Belledonne (Belledonne Balconies) offer superb views over the Belledonne massif and the Chartreuse.
Leaving Villard Bonnot you take a small road that climbs and winds around the hills. The first three miles are steep but then the climb is pleasant, and the gradient becomes gentler as you cross fields and hamlets.
When you arrive at the pass, let yourself be seduced by the beauty of the high Belledonne mountains. Take the same route back down and take a refreshing break in the shade of the trees in the park at the Maison Bergès - Museum of White Coal (Musée de la houille blanche) in Lancey.
Before leaving, learn about the history of this energy source which had a massive impact on the Grésivaudan Valley.
Departing from Villard-Bonnot, take the D523, Boulevard de le Liberation, and turn right on Avenue Robert Huant before joining the D290A through the Bois Allemand.
Continue on the D290 towards the Bois Rossin, towards La Bourgeat, Côté Rotie, Sainte- Agnès, the town and Montgouyard. At the Champs, turn left on the D208 and continue towards the Mas de Côté Genièvre, Le Mollard, La Perrière, and finally Les Mouilles.
Take the same route to go back.
