A small pass which is quite steep for the first few kilometres, but full of wonderful sights to see.
And rest assured it ends smoothly. Before leaving Saint Martin Vinoux, stop at La Casamaure, a small "Orientalist" palace built thanks to technological innovations in moulded cement, known as the "grey gold". Grenoble boasts many buildings in moulded cement, offering some ideas for visits on your return.
But back to our pass. Carry on a little further and you're on the roads of the Chartreuse massif, on the south Balcony side. Having crossed the Col de Clémencières pass, take the road back, making a brief stop in Quaix-en-Chartreuse to admire the mountains of Pinéa and the Aiguille de Quaix that stand above the village. For an even more unusual sight, visit an orchid “farm” that welcomes curious visitors. Then head downhill to Proveyzieux at a relaxed pace.
From Saint-Egrève, take the D1075, Avenue General de Gaulle, Route de Grenoble, Avenue Général Leclerc, Rue Conrad Killian then continue on the D104 to Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux. At the Route de Lyon, turn left on the D57, the Route de Clémencières, heading towards Lévetière, Clémencières.
Before Mélattes, turn left onto the D105A, Vence, Route de Clémencières, Le Mas, Le Château, La Jars, Lombardie, Route de Quaix en Chartreuse. Take the Route du Gua, D105G, La Buissière. Continue to Le Gua and take the D105 back down via Route du Gua, L'Eglise (church), La Chiaise, Route de Proveyzieux, Rue de la Monta, Avenue de la Monta.
