Alpe d'Huez

Alpe d'Huez

3 July 2022

The 41st edition of the LEPAPE Marmotte Granfondo Alpes will take place on Sunday July 3rd. The traditional 8 000 participants are expected after two reduced editions due to the sanitary crisis.

After two special editions, the LEPAPE Marmotte Granfondo Alpes will take place on Sunday July 3rd and will offer an intense week of cycling to all involved. Participants will have the opportunity to warm up their legs on Friday July 1st with the Grimpée de l’Alpe. Starting from Bourg d’Oisans, the day’s objective will be to climb to the top of the Alpe d’Huez’s famous 21 hairpins and finish in front of the Palais des Sports.

The second challenge on offer will start on Saturday July 2nd with the LEPAPE Rando des Marmottes. This two-stage ride will take place over two days with a rest night in Valloire. Two days of pure pleasure on the bike to complete the exact same course as the Granfondo participants without the added stress of being timed. The participants will take in the wonderful Oisans, Maurienne valley, the Galibier and of course the Alpe d’Huez.

To finish things off, the queen stage (the LEPAPE Marmotte Granfondo Alpes) will take place on Sunday July 3rd. The participants will start this 174 km and 5 000m D+ journey by climbing the Col du Glandon (1 924m) with passages at more than 10%. They will then have to head to the summit of the Col du Télégraphe (1 566m) and the Col du Galibier (2 642m), together good for more than 35km of climbing and 2 000 m of elevation gain. To end things off, the 21 hairpins will welcome participants as they face slopes of more than 13% at some points. The finish line is at the summit of the Alpe d’Huez at 1 812m of altitude.

Back this year after a successful first in 2021 is the LEPAPE Marmotte Ultrafondo Alpes. Covering a distance of more than 226 km and 6 300 m of elevation gain, participants will climb the Alpe d’Huez twice, with the Col de Sarenne an additional difficulty between both attempts.

LEPAPE MARMOTTE ALPES VILLAGE

Starting on Thursday June 30th, brands, partners and expo holders will welcome participants to the LEPAPE Marmotte Alpes village located in front of Alpe d’Huez’s Palais des Sports.

Spécial COVID-19

Health measures in force will apply.

It takes tenacity and courage to overcome the 186 kilometers and 5,000 meters of climbing elevation of the course. The cyclists will need to complete 5 of the most legendary passes in France: the Croix de Fer, the Télégraphe, the Galibier, the Lautaret and finally the ascent of Alpe d’Huez.

A new route for the 40 years of La Marmotte

40 years worth celebrating! For the occasion, the La Marmotte Granfondo’s team has decided to offer an extra challenge, the Marmotte Ultra. The participants run/cycle/compete for the classic version of the route but once they arrive in Alpe d’Huez, they will continue heading to the Col du Sarenne, then descending the pass and once again climbing up Alpe d’Huez.
