Hiking itinerary

The Pierre Percée

La Pierre Percée

This hike will take you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch situated 1220m above sea level. From there you will be able to enjoy a stunning view of the Matheysine plateau. The route also passes through the forest, which is splendid in the summer.

Park at the Pierre-Châtel cemetery car park. Follow the tree-lined path until you reach the former collier's in Picardon. Keep going straight ahead along the hill, cross the hamlet of Le Vernay, and continue straight ahead until you enter the Bois de Paraillat (Paraillat Woods). Once you reach the junction, turn left uphill to rejoin the region's 'Grande Randonnée' (French Hiking Route) path called 'Tour des lacs de Laffrey'. Then bear left and follow the ridge through woods until you reach the spectacular Pierre Percée. To find your way back, retrace your steps and turn right to head downhill. Keep left to end up at the former collier's in Picardon, and then the car park.
